A Zoom Cashier?

Well this is new.

A chicken joint in Queens, New York is now employing cashiers and hostesses from the Philippines via Zoom.

Sansan Ramen has had enough of the minimum wage hikes. New York’s minimum wage is now at $16/hour.

So they did something that a lot of companies are looking into, bringing in cheaper labor.

The solution for them was to hire people from the Philippines to take orders, greet customers and collect payments via Zoom.

Average pay per hour? $3.75.

Can’t blame the savings. But it begs the question
Are we all just going down a deeper hole with all of this? Cost of living is increasing, yet people are loosing their jobs to cheaper work.

How Do You Advertise Water?

Sometimes we ask the question, hasn’t everything been created already?

Where is there room for more stuff?

That’s a good question, but you have to think a little different.

It’s not that you have to reinvent the wheel
 Just make a “different one”.

Liquid Death came onto the scene in 2019 and has been growing from just a simple $2,000 Facebook Ad campaign, to now being worth over 1.4 Billion Dollars.

Their play on words and whimsical advertising has taken the beverage world by storm. They sell water and flavored water (basically). But for them it’s not what’s inside the can, it’s what’s on the outside.

Calling something Liquid Death already gets you talking about it.

Now they are partnering up with brands like Elf (makeup) and using influencer marketing to reach a massive audience.

They are definitely here to stay. A fun watch and follow.

The Right Way To Start Businesses

Here’s how most people start businesses.

They think “oh I know how to teach someone X”, or “oh I can make a better shirt, with better fabric”.

Then they go through all the little details about making the deliverables (products or service). All the functions of them and so on

Once the product or service offer is finalized, they go “ok, now we need to think about marketing”.

Whoops!! Wrong way.

Marketing should always come first. Before you create the product or service, ask yourself these questions:

  • Who is the person I want to sell to? (moms, teenagers, pet owners
etc)

  • How would a product in the niche you are going after look cool, fresh, hip?

  • If you were to get attention with something and make people stop in their tracks, what would that look like?

Just these 3 simple questions should get you thinking deeper about marketing.

Once, and only once you have the concept of how to market something
 You go create it.

In the Liquid Death example, if you created a flavored drink first and then tried to think of marketing for it, you may be completely stuck. What if nothing super amazing comes to mind?

It’s much easier to think of something crazy and original first (maybe even in an industry you aren’t as familiar with), just with brainstorming.

Do this exercise in your brain from time to time. How you would market certain products?
